DIVERS/CITÉ is proud to announce a very positive assessment of its latest flamboyant edition. Once again, favourable weather conditions coupled with rich, high quality programming translated into huge crowds for some memorable and incredible events!
DIVERS/CITÉ's high-calibre outdoor events were chalk full of world-renowned performances and
unforgettable sights and sounds. The Loto-Québec Stage showcased internationally acclaimed DJs at New Society and the Sunset Party, caught the disco groove at Le Grand Bal and was home to the annual rendez-vous of Quebec’s best voices at 1, Boulevard des Rêves, which enjoyed a new location, giant screen projections and an unforgettable performance by the one-ofa-kind NYC drag diva Shequida. Meanwhile, the TELUS Stage held two major signature happenings: Mascara, la nuit des drags, the largest drag show on earth and La Grande Danse, the biggest outdoor house event in North America, with a special Spanish edition featuring DJ superstars from the Iberian Peninsula.
Indoor shows and parties were also a resounding success that presented a wide array of artistic
genres and events. From the moving and powerful creations of Quebec’s top choreographers at the much anticipated return of Flexx at Place des Arts, to the resonating voices of the divas on Opéra Night at the Grande Bibliothèque, DIVERS/CITÉ held true to it’s tradition of charming festival goers’ senses, as well as making them dance until the early morning with exhilarating indoor parties like the D/C Party and D/C Ball, both held at Stereo, as well as by inviting DJs Pagano and David Tort for two exhilarating nights at Parking. Finally, the Sapphic soirée Lesbomonde, held at Théâtre TELUS was once again a big hit among the ladies this year.
DIVERS/CITÉ is also very pleased to announce that the Friends For Life Bike Rally, in which more than 300 cyclists and 100 crew-members travel the distance between Toronto and Montreal over six days raising funds to support those affected by HIV/AIDS again hit a new record collecting more than 1.3 million dollars this year! Congratulations!
DIVERS/CITÉ would especially like to thank all participants, crew-members, artists, partners and sponsors that made the realization of this incredible project possible. We are now left with long lasting memories of unique moments and large gatherings under the banner of the love for arts, music and the beauty of diversity.
The next edition, held July 30 to August 5, 2012, will not only mark the 20th anniversary of DIVERS/CITÉ, but also the 15th edition of Mascara and La Grande Danse’s 10th edition. The stars are all aligning for what will surely be the biggest and most anticipated DIVERS/CITÉ to date!
